But I have watched some clips this morning and read up on what happened. Sounds like I didn't miss much. :P
I want to talk about Christina Hendrick's boobs. So unoriginal, I know. I think that is all that people talk about when she comes up in conversation. I think it is lovely that a beautiful, curvy woman can exist in Hollywood. And the show Mad Men supposedly encourages women there to not be super toned or super skinny so that it sticks with a more realistic portrayal. Which is great.
But this does not look comfortable. This also looks like someone who wants to make her boobs the subject of every watercooler conversation the day after the Emmys. These boobies are screaming for help!
I can't even use the excuse that I am super busy anymore. Right now things at work are slow and I can't even get to my blog. We busted our butts for a few months, but things are slow for the next couple of weeks.
And then we are supposed to hear about the future of our workplace mid-September. A little unsettling. It is a bad time to work for The Man. Everyone here is concerned. A lot of gallows humor floating on the breeze. A lot of "If we are still here..." comments going around. Makes it really difficult to stay motivated. At the very least we will have 60 days notice before being turned out on our ears.
At any rate, life goes on. We are slowly starting a new project. I have another new hire to develop. I made a big mistake and totally stood him up for a meeting today. A meeting that I set up. Talk about making a good first impression. I apologized profusely and followed up with an email. My friends here think it is hilarious. And I have to admit once I got over being mortified, I laughed too.
The kids are doing great. Summer is such a nice time of year for kids. It is so nice for them to play outside. Evan and our neighbors' son love to play around together. Delilah follows behind doing exactly as they do. My boy is going to start Kindergarten in about 4 1/2 weeks. I am so not ready for that!
James and I also enjoy the summer. The summer means that no good tv is on, so we catch up on shows we don't watch during the year. For instance, we started watching Friday Night Lights. I believe there are 5 seasons and we have watched about half of the first season. That is really good. We finished up Six Feet Under. Brilliant. And less brilliant...we have been watching the Jersey Shore. It is fun though.
I will try to write more another day. Before more life gets in the way :)
Back at work today. It is always hard to go back after a nice weekend. Saturday, we went to the zoo with the kids. I thought Delilah would enjoy because she is so into animals. And she really did enjoy it. Evan wanted only to see the alligators. Unfortunately, we only have crocs at the Denver zoo, but they did in a pinch. It is funny because that is all he could talk about, all day. But then we see them and he is like, "oh neat... Look at the spiders!" They also have this cave you walk into and you can see bats flying around. Evan FREAKED out. I told him, "Don't worry, they are behind glass." LOL. So then we get to the snakes and he tells me, "Don't worry, Mama, they are behind glass." He also has been saying, "Oh really?" to us. Like, "Evan, you have to get ready for bed." Evan: "Oh Weawwy?"
We also had Landon and Christie over. Landon removed our dead bush for us and then James grilled for us. It was a nice night.
Before I got pregnant with Delilah, I was dealing with some, what the doctors ultimately called, IBS. Basically, every so often I get really sore stomach. :( I was in major pain from sometime early Sunday morning...until really now. I didn't really have any energy yesterday. Eventually, my sweet husband had me go lay in bed and watch DVDs and he handled the evening stuff. I really didn't feel good at all. Better now, but not much.
Anyhow, I missed the Emmys last night. I watched a few clips this morning and this one really made me smile. I think I love everyone in it. :)
Tonight is the finale and I am feeling nostalgic. I watched the pilot episode last night and the cast looked sooooo young. 6 years ago (maybe 7 for the cast...as it usually takes some time for the pilot to be shot, picked up, and run on tv). Everyone was fresh-faced and for the most part really good looking. I guess the last six years will show on my face and body too. I was 24 when the pilot ran. I had heard all the buzz from my entertainment websites and magazines. I was in Washington DC....actually that week, I was staying way out in Virginia because I couldn't get any closer to the District. I had to take the Metro way out to the end of the line and then STILL walk a good half mile to the hotel. In fact, that day, I walked and ate Coldstone Creamery at the same time...figuring it might cancel it out.
I was planning on watching the show because it really resonated with me...the airplane...I was always on airplanes those days. I was miserable with my job. I was recently married and never really got to see my husband because I was in DC all the time. So I was trying to apply for jobs while watching the pilot...trying to change my life. But I was riveted. I couldn't take my eyes off the show. Eventually, my application page at the FBI timed out. I didn't care because I was so into this show. :) I did change my life...not through changing jobs, but through having children (for better or worse :P ). Because of the way time ran on the island, I was pregnant at the same time Sun was. In fact, when everyone was saying, "Yeah right, some just happened to have a pregnancy test in their suitcase." I got to say, "I took a pregnancy test with me to Mexico." I knew there was a chance that I would be pregnant, so I took the test with me. :)
And so life goes on, 6 years later, we all look a little older. And maybe after tonight's show...maybe a little wiser. Maybe.
Last night I was up tooooo late. We had a bad storm last night that woke me up last night. I have been watching Tori and Dean. I want to like them because they are pretty cute and funny. But I have a hard tme liking them because they both cheated on spouses when they first hooked up. Dean actually had just adopted a baby girl when he left his first wife for Tori. Blech. http://www.laineygossip.com/Tori_Spelling_and_Kevin_Federline_Junior_pose_with_baby_Stella_in_OK_Magazine.aspx And it was a little weird seeing Tori ask her nanny if it would be ok if her baby girl could have some type of food. Shouldn't she know what is ok for her baby? It is hers. I suppose it is a miracle that Tori is as normal as she is.
Evan just called me up to his room with most pathetic, "Mommy? Mommy?" I went up there and he said, "My toe hurts. I need a band aid." I asked him, "What did you do to it?" He said, "I bit it." Hm. Well, I guess try not to do that anymore. LOL.
Right. Ok. Right after this show is over, I am going to go get ready for bed and then feed the baby. I am on my way.

A couple of things that made me smile this morning: I was looking for a blanket for Delilah to cover her in her car seat and Evan started to yell, "I have a 'Dea! I have a 'Dea!" (idea, I think). He thought he knew where one was. And then we were talking about how Daddy was home this morning but that he had to go to work tonight. I asked Evan if he knew where Daddy worked and he said, "The gym." LOL.
Today, I have lunch plans with my work friends! :) Tonight, Emily is going to come over. We are going to have a Jon & Kate + Eight viewing party. It shouldn't be so much fun to see if a couple is going to get divorced. I do truly feel bad for those kiddos. And I feel like one of the idiots watching The Truman Show, but I CANNOT help myself. Who decides to let the whole world watch your marriage unravel. I have no secrets, but even I would draw a line there. Kate talks about how this is all for her kids, but when you see stuff like this you have to wonder: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/telefile/2009/06/in-defense-of-this-kate-gossel.php I am not even talking about her "denying" her child water. I am talking about how listless those kids are. They shouldn't have to do press! They are 8 and 5 years old! It doesn't look fun at all for them. So, my thoughts are that Jon & Kate are both douchebags. But I still can't help watching tonight.
And then my next dilemma. I found this daycare that would save us $400 a month. It is a state of the art center...looks really cool. The reason it is cheaper is because they offer civil servants 25% off. Well, the downside (isn't there always a downside?) is that it is affiliated with a nondenominational church. I wouldn't mind it if they taught the kids a few bible stories and had a Christmas pageant, but I do not want them indoctrinated. So, I am supposed to go see this place this afternoon. It makes me a little oogey. They call their youth group at this church Revolution Youth. Oogey.
Let's see here. I am Jessica. I am wife to James. I am mom to Evan and Delilah. I have sisters who I think are pretty cool. I have some friends...real ones and imaginary. I watch too much TV. I love to go to movies, but don't really get to anymore. I work for The Man. I have a Master's Degree. I eat like I am 5 years old. I love Macaroni and Cheese and Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Fruit is not dessert. Fruit on dessert ruins the dessert. I like the idea of beach destinations, but I am basically allergic to the sun and terrified of the ocean. I am likely to get way more wasted than you at your birthday party. Sometimes I wonder how I got here and how I turned out me....if you know my family, you know what I mean. LOL. That's me.
